Madeleine Kahn

I have worked as a writer and editor from 1982 – 1992 and again from 2004 to the present, both before and after my academic career. In the early part of my writing career, I wrote user manuals for software programs. Since 2004, I have worked in two areas about which I am passionate: health care and education.

My other career as a professor of English Literature has informed and enriched my work as a writer. It has, in essence, given me more tools for my toolbox: it has expanded my areas of expertise, given me experience writing for a variety of audiences, and made me a superb editor and teacher of writing. At Stanford University and Mills College, I taught writing, English literature, and women’s studies, all while writing books and articles of my own. Those years as an academic also made me a skilled facilitator of meetings, a resourceful and tenacious researcher and interviewer, and an expert at providing clear and organized explanations of complex topics.

I have a B.A. in English and Political Science from Swarthmore College, and an M.A. and Ph.D. from Stanford University. I was a tenured associate professor of English Literature at Mills College from 1989-2004.
