I've been messing around with photo editing software again.
Zoner Media Explorer 5 does a nice job of editing pictures and browsing folders. There is a reasonable free version. Its unique capability is easy editing of EXIF data. Good if you lose the date and time on your camera and want to reset the EXIF data. It looks like it has a lot of nice printing options.
Downsides: It doesn't seem to support IPTC data, which is what I am currently using for user supplied metadata. It is crippleware, listing a number of features which you have to buy the paid version to access. Still, the basic set of available features is pretty good.

Total Commander still has the best file renamer that I have seen. The program costs $40, and is useful for a lot of other things as well.
Ran into a very nice looking gallery script, QDig.
Downloaded new version of photo studio someone mentioned as good for editing metadata. I have a vague memory of trying it before and not being impressed.
